Common Questions

How often should I have my HVAC system serviced?

We recommend having your heating system serviced once a year in the fall before the heating season, and your air conditioning system serviced once a year in the spring before the cooling season. Regular maintenance catches small problems before they become expensive repairs and keeps your system running efficiently.

What size HVAC system do I need for my home?

System sizing depends on the square footage of your home, the insulation quality, the number of windows, and several other factors. An undersized system will struggle to keep up, and an oversized system will short-cycle and wear out faster. We do a proper load calculation before recommending any system.

How long does an HVAC system last?

A well-maintained furnace typically lasts 15 to 20 years. Air conditioners and heat pumps generally last 12 to 15 years. Regular maintenance is the single biggest factor in extending the life of your system.

What should I do if my furnace stops working?

First, check your thermostat to make sure it is set to heat and the temperature is set above the current room temperature. Check your air filter and replace it if it is clogged. Check your circuit breaker. If none of those solve the problem, call us at (801) 362-5115 and we will diagnose it for you.

Why is my energy bill so high?

High energy bills are often caused by a dirty air filter, an aging system losing efficiency, duct leaks, poor insulation, or a system that is not properly sized for your home. A tune-up and inspection can usually identify the cause.

What is the difference between a heat pump and a furnace?

A furnace generates heat by burning fuel or using electric resistance. A heat pump moves heat from one place to another, which makes it significantly more efficient. In Utah’s climate, a heat pump can handle most heating needs, though some homeowners add a backup heating element for the coldest nights.

Are you EPA certified?

Yes. Air Plus Heating holds universal EPA certification, which is required for handling refrigerants. We are also certified with WARDFLEX and TracPipe for gas line work.

Do you offer a warranty on your work?

Yes. We stand behind our work. Call us at (801) 362-5115 for specific warranty information on parts and labor for your type of service.

How do I change my air filter?

Turn off your system, locate the filter slot on your air handler or furnace, slide out the old filter, and slide in a new one with the arrow pointing toward the unit. Most homes need a filter change every 1 to 3 months depending on usage and the type of filter.

What areas do you serve?

We serve all of Utah County including Spanish Fork, Provo, Orem, American Fork, Lehi, Springville, Payson, Salem, Mapleton, Elk Ridge, Highland, Alpine, Cedar Hills, Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain, and all surrounding communities.

How do I know if I need a repair or a full replacement?

A good rule of thumb is the 50 percent rule: if the repair costs more than 50 percent of the cost of a new system and your equipment is over 10 years old, replacement is usually the better investment. We will always give you an honest recommendation based on your specific situation.
